Tesla pushes Norway’s EV sales to new record By Reuters

[ad_1]

OSLO (Reuters) -Norwegian sales of electric vehicles reached a new record last month thanks to demand for Tesla Inc (NASDAQ) Inc’s midsize models in influential Nordic markets, according to data released on Friday.

Last month’s sales of new vehicles included 77.5% battery electric vehicles, according to the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV). This figure is up from 61.5% last year as Norway aims to eliminate petrol and diesel engine sales by 2025.

The Tesla Model Y compact utility vehicle was Norway’s top-selling vehicle with 19.8%. It was followed closely by Model 3 sedan, which had 12.3%. The Enyaq Skoda was at 4.4%.

The Model Y, which was first unveiled March 2019 by Tesla of California in the United States, was made only recently available for European customers. Thousands of Norwegians were among those who received the vehicle.

Norway, an oil producer, has made a significant contribution to ending combustion engine use by exempting all electric vehicles from tax.

The overall Norwegian market for electric vehicles grew to 54% in 2020. This is more than the combined volumes of diesel, petrol and hybrid engines.
