Wall Street Opens Higher as Merck News Hints at Covid Game-Changer; Dow up 150 Pts By Investing.com

Investing.com — U.S. stocks opened higher Friday after overnight losses in futures following potentially important news from Merck, the U.S. pharmaceutical giant. 

Merck reported encouraging results in a pilot study of an antiviral medication to combat Covid-19. It could change how humanity views the possibility of battling the disease by proving it safe and efficient. 

These considerations resulted in the gaining 149 points (or 0.4%) during the opening minutes of trading while the rose 0.1%. The fell 0.2% on news that supports the reopening pandemic-stricken countries. This is a pattern which has been recurring. 

Premarket trading was clear lower for all three indexes before Merck’s news.
