LONDON (Reuters] – Gas stations throughout London and Southeast England are still suffering from a lack fuel even though the situation is improving in Scotland and Northern England, according to the Petrol Retailers Association.
After a week filled with chaos and fuel shortages, Britain will deploy its military tanker drivers on Monday to transport fuel.
Sky News was informed by the chairman of PRA that his organization’s survey revealed that 16% of over 1,000 sites had no fuel on Saturday. This is a significant improvement from the 27% who were reported as dry Friday. However, local bottlenecks remain.
Brian Madderson, Chairman of PRA said that “it is better in the North and Scotland. London and the South East really remain the crucial area going forward into next Week.”
A survey revealed that 68% had diesel and petrol available for purchase.
The government announced Friday that 200 tanker crew members from the military will be completing their training this weekend in preparation for Monday’s deliveries, citing an urgent shortage of truck drivers.
The military was photographed on Saturday at Buncefield Oil depot in Hemel Hempstead north of London.
Sajid Javid (Health Minister) stated that the supply situation is stable.
According to him, “It appears that the situation has stabilised, but it’s still not over completely, so that’s one reason that the army were asked to assist,” he said to the BBC.
