BERLIN (Reuters). BERLIN (Reuters). Volkswagen’s head wants its works council to push the production of electric cars at Wolfsburg’s main factory to 2024 to make it more affordable, a local newspaper reported Saturday.
Braunschweiger Zeitung reported that Daniela Cavallo, chief of works council, stated in the Braunschweiger Zeitung that the global shortage of chips and the COVID-19 pandemic had reduced the production at the plant. It needed to create a new model in order to remain competitive.
Cavallo stated that the site needed a quicker path to emobility, and added this should happen in 2024.
VW’s Trinity project has seen the development of a new flagship electric sedan that will be manufactured at Wolfsburg in 2026.
Cavallo stated that Wolfsburg’s production of electric vehicles would help address the capacity utilization issues.
