Israel requires COVID-19 booster shots for stricter “green pass” By Reuters

JERUSALEM, (Reuters) – Israel put pressure on its vaccinated population to get a boost shot Sunday by making those who have received their third dose COVID-19 vaccine eligible to receive a green pass that allows entry into restaurants and gyms.
Israel was a pioneer in the use of Pfizer/BioNtech booster doses — they were administered to individuals from risk groups starting in July, and to all people over 12 by the end August. Other countries are closely monitoring its campaign.
A new green pass will be issued to people who have had three shots, or were recently vaccinated against COVID-19. This replaces a system that only required two shots. The government now considers this full vaccination.
Beginning Tuesday, event organizers and store owners will need to scan the digital barcode of customers before they allow entry. There may be exceptions for museums and libraries.
A booster shot has been administered to approximately 37% of Israel’s 9.4million population. In recent days, the number COVID-19-related patients in severe condition is declining. The same goes for confirmed daily cases. They fell below 4,000 last month, after reaching 10,000.
