‘No Time to Die’ scores $119 million in international debut

Although the latest James Bond movie won’t be available in America until Friday, it is already making waves around the world.

Over the weekend, “No Time to Die,” which earned an estimated $119.1million in international ticket sales, was the first motion picture association title to surpass $100 million for an overseas debut and without China. China will receive the fifth and last James Bond movie starring Daniel Craig on October 29.

It had one of the highest opening weekend results in a James Bond movie in Japan, Hong Kong, Germany and it helped to fuel the greatest pandemic-era opening weekends for 21 countries including the United Kingdom.

MGM and Universal are the co-distributors. These are positive results. “No Time to Die,” was delayed during the pandemic because the studios waited to see if moviegoers would be ready to go back to the cinemas.

Danny Boyle who had been supposed to produce and direct “No Time to Die”, was forced to push the movie from November 2019. The film was released in April 2020 after it bounced around between dates. It was first released in April 2020 after movie theatres around the globe were closed during the pandemic. November 2020 and then to April 2021 before it settled on an October date.

“The pent-up demand built over a six-year wait since ‘Spectre,’ plus the significance of the end of the Craig era as Bond, has made this required viewing for even for the most casual 007 fan,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore. “For the hard-core aficionados, ‘No Time to Die’ represents a major milestoneAnd a true not to be missed cinematic event.”

Advanced ticket sales internationally and domestically have given box office analysts hope for a solid theatrical run. Because “No Time to Die,” is available only in theaters.
