SYDNEY (Reuters), Qantas Airways began negotiations with manufacturers in order to gradually renew its main narrowbody fleet and regional aircraftr fleets. This was according to industry sources.

According to them, the Australian carrier will be studying the Airbus A220 as well as Brazilian Embraer’s E2 in order to replace its regional fleet consisting of 20 Boeing (717s) and 18 Fokker100s.

They said that Airbus and Boeing would face each other separately while Qantas strives to renew an established fleet of Boeing 737-880s. These moves could result in staggered purchases of 100-plus jets.

Qantas representatives declined to speak at an industry conference in Boston where executives from airlines were gathered. Embraer, Boeing, and Airbus are also planemakers.
