FacebookInstagram, WhatsApp and other social media platforms are currently down

All of the websites and applications for the service were experiencing server failures. DownDetector.com reported that the outages appeared to be widespread. However, it was unclear if the outage is affecting all users or just a few locations. The cause of the outage is unknown at this time.

The three platforms were all disabled shortly after 12:01 EST.

Facebook spokeswoman was not available immediately for comment.

A similar disruption occurred in 2019 and lasted for about one hour. Facebook said that outageIt was due to a technical issue. Sometimes major websites may also go down when content delivery networks (or CDNs) go offline. That happened in JuneFastly, one of the CDNs was affected by technical problems. Major websites such as Amazon, Reddit, and The New York Times were affected.
