WARSAW, (Reuters) – Poland will strengthen its border by installing motion sensors and cameras. This is in response to a significant migrant influx coming from Belarus, according to its interior minister.

Poland built a barbed wire fence to protect its border from Belarus and Belarus. This was in response to criticisms that migrants had been treated cruelly. As part of a permanent border barrier, the new fence would increase border control.

In an interview with Sieci, the Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski stated that he is building a perimeter. He added that motion sensors and thermal cameras will be used to show exactly where people gather.

He stated that there had been a political determination to secure adequate funding. The new frontier will follow the Greek-Turkish one, and that inspiration was also taken from Hungary or Serbia.

Greece currently tests a high-tech and automated surveillance system for its northern border with Turkey. This was done in August. Officials expect that it will be fully operational at the beginning of next year. This system includes drones, motion sensors, radar, and cameras that transmit information to border surveillance towers. 

Poland is an EU member of the largest size and has one the most extensive border security services in Europe.

It was criticised by NGOs for its illegal pushbacks towards migrants arriving in Poland from Belarus, and the lack of shelter or support for Polish residents already living there.

Hungary has been widely criticised for its treatment of migrants. It uses a barrier, a wire-reinforced steel fence, armed with heat sensors and floodlights, as well loudspeakers in multiple languages.

It was an important crossing point for many thousands of refugees who crossed into Europe during the height of 2015.
