Raiinmaker, a blockchain fan engagement platform, has teamed up with multimedia company Cosmic Wire in order to help several climate charities by creating six NFTs. The companies have joined forces to create NFTs based on the work of legendary street artist Banksy, with tokens tied to the iconic remnants of the mysterious creator’s original Spy Booth wall mural.

100 percent of royalty streams generated by the NFTs are going to support three charities that actively fight climate change. Raiinmaker and Cosmic Wire also will give away $100,000.

‘Right now it’s critical that we all step up and do our part to help turn the tide at this important moment with climate change,’ said Raiinmaker Founder J.D. Seraphine. ‘We’re honored to support all the important work of the CfRN, Laudato Tree, and American Forests.’

Spy Booth Wall Mural was first created in 2014. It depicts fiftys-era spies listening to conversations around a telephone booth at the building’s side. The mural is located near GCHQ in Cheltenham. The work is a critique of government surveillance and wiretaps. It has been controversial almost since its inception.

It was demolished two years later and it was believed that the mural had been permanently lost. It was fortunately that the fragments remaining from the piece were recovered and preserved.

Heralding the partnership with Raiinmaker, Cosmic Wire CEO Jerad Finck said, ‘We at Cosmic are truly excited to reintroduce the world to this amazing piece and preserve it indefinitely for future generations to enjoy. These remnants are all that remain of the work, and now they will be time-capsuled forever in the blockchain.’

The Laudato Tree charity was founded by Vivienne Harr (17 years old), a young activist who aims to plant seven million trees and empower local communities across 11 African Sahel countries. The climate change non-profit was inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical letter Laudato Sì, and was endorsed by the Pope at the Vatican in 2019.

‘You don’t need to be big or powerful to change the world,’ says Harr. ‘You just need to follow your heart – and stand for what you believe in.’

Coalition for Rainforest Nations (CfRN) meanwhile aims to unify industrialized and developing nations to promote forest stewardship in conjunction with economic development. The Coalition has been instrumental in stopping deforestation and fulfilling the promise to reduce emissions from tropical rainforests by creating REDD+, which protects 90% of the world’s tropical rainforests.

American Forests President Jad Dley pledged to match each tree that was planted on the Great Green Wall of Africa with one planted in America. ‘American Forests is proud to partner with Laudato Tree to reach a bold goal of 100 million trees planted by 2030. American Forests will work with Catholics here in America to match tree planting on the Great Green Wall with planting in the United States, focused on underserved neighborhoods that lack tree cover for protection from extreme heat,’ Daley remarked. ‘In this way, we will together answer Pope Francis’ call to deliver climate justice for our most vulnerable.’
