TOKYO, Reuters – Japan’s chief cabinet secretary Hirokazu Matsuno stated Tuesday that the government was closely monitoring oil prices because rising costs could hurt corporations and put more burdens on the households.

His comments on the one-month drop in Japanese stock market prices were not made. He stated that markets are determined by daily factors.
