LONDON, (Reuters) – The world is just one millimetre from a global agreement on corporate taxes. A deal could be signed at Washington next week or the G20 in Washington, Bruno Le Maire, French Finance Minister said Wednesday.
A revised draft of a global corporate overhaul tax plan has been dropped below a proposal minimum rate “at most 15%”, sources close to the discussion told Reuters.
Le Maire stated that he was determined to make a deal because we are only one millimetre from reaching a global agreement for an international system of taxation for the 21st Century. He also said that he would not let go of the chance to create this system.
We could sign the final agreement in the international taxation system either at the G20 meetings in Rome or next week at Washington.
Le Maire stated that certain states wanted a 10-year implementation time frame and asked “why not?”Le Maire said that some states wanted a 10 year implementation period and “why not?”, while adding that compromise would be necessary.
He said, “The important point is that an agreement be adopted no later than at the end this month on the new international fiscal system.”
I can wait a few more days. While I don’t want to say more weeks or months, I can wait some more days until we find a compromise with the OECD member states.
