Geneva motor show postponed further until 2023 By Reuters

MILAN, (Reuters) – Organisers of Geneva International Motor Show stated on Thursday that the event would be cancelled next year due “industrywide issues relating the COVID-19 epidemic”.

In a statement, the organizers stated that they had no other options because of direct and indirect pandemic issues.

These included travel restrictions that were still in effect for visitors and exhibitors as well as a continuing global semiconductor crisis which has left car makers with new priorities.

This decision was made after 2019 and 2020 editions of the show were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The president of Comité permanent du Salon international de l’automobile, Maurice Turrettini, said that despite all efforts, organisers had to face reality.

“The pandemic is out of control” he stated.

Turrettini stated, however, that he considered the decision a postponement rather than cancellation.

He stated, “I’m confident that the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) will return stronger than ever” in his statement.
