WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Vice President Kamala Harris announced on Thursday that a report on labor policies that can help unions and encourage labor organizing was released by the President Joe Biden. It was commissioned in April.
Harris spoke at the White House Labor Task force’s second meeting. Harris was joined by Marty Walsh (Labor Secretary) and other cabinet secretaries. They aim to improve union membership. https://reut.rs/3lkm9tZ
Harris explained that they have committed to themselves and to one another that this will not be a report that sits on the shelves. Harris added that they are 100% dedicated to the implementation and… acting in haste with a sense of urgency.
According to her, the proposals contained in this report “touch all sectors of employment.”
Harris also urged the passage the Protecting the Right to Organize Act. This Act prohibits employers holding anti-union meeting and imposes severe penalties on workers for violating their rights. While the House passed the bill in March, it is unlikely that the Senate will.
Ex-union official Secretary Walsh stated that the report will show an “all-of-government approach” to organizing workers to overcome the many obstacles faced by workers to exercising their rights to organize. It also includes new cooperation between agencies.
He stated, “It shows we’re responding to what workers are saying,”
