LONDON, (Reuters) – Abdulrazak Gurnah from Tanzania, the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2021, stated that it was a great honor to receive the award and that it is a tribute to countless other accomplished writers.

Gurnah said that he thought the award was “just brilliant and amazing” when asked by Reuters how he feels about winning it. “I’m very thankful to the Swedish Academy that nominated my work and I.”

His words were: “It’s great, it’s just huge, and there is such a long list of amazing writers – It’s still in my hands.” It was so surprising that it took me a while to believe the announcement.

He laughed when asked whether he was enjoying champagne or just dancing for fun.
