TAIPEI (Reuters – Taiwan’s chipmaker TSMC has said that it will not release any confidential information to the White House in response to a request by the White House for more details about the continuing semiconductor crisis, which led U.S. production cuts.

Last month, the White House requested that chip and auto companies be notified.

Gina Raimondo Secretary of Commerce stated that companies would be required to respond to a voluntary request within 45 days regarding the crisis in chips.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd., the biggest contract chipmaker in the world and a key supplier of Apple Inc (NASDAQ), has expressed concern that they would be required to turn over sensitive data.

“Don’t worry. “We will never leak sensitive information about our company, particularly customers’,” Sylvia Fang, TSMC’s general attorney, stated on Wednesday.

She said, “Customer trust has been a major factor in our company’s growth,”

If this is about resolving supply chain issues, then we will try our best to do everything we can to aid them. So many things have been done. In the case of auto chips we have attempted to boost output and prioritize auto chips.

TSMC (and Taiwan’s Government) have stated repeatedly that they are working hard to address the problem of chip shortage.

Fang stated that they are still evaluating the contents of the questionnaire sent by the United States to companies.

The U.S. government “found out that many companies have questions so they are preparing an FAQ, which will be released soon. The FAQ will be released soon. We’re waiting to see if that helps.

Taiwan’s government said that it respects U.S. Commercial Law and Rules, however they are willing to help Taiwanese firms if requested.
