(Reuters) – Wednesday’s inspection by the U.S. Coast Guard in Oakland focused on possible oil leakage from California after a ship’s anchor hit a pipe.
Unidentified sources were cited by the newspaper as saying that they knew of the investigation. The report stated that an inquiry into the possibility of an anchor bursting the pipeline was only in the beginning stages. However, the report did not identify which ship officers had been inspecting.
Questions were deferred by the U.S. Coast Guard to PHMSA (the federal agency responsible for the investigation). PHMSA representatives were not available immediately for comment.
Amplify Energy (NYSE) – The company that owns the pipeline, and the connected rigs said Tuesday that oil seemed to have leaked through the 13-inch (33 cm) gap in the pipe. This gash was about 105 feet off the intended location.
