Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

The index increased 0.83% and the index gained 0.98% at the closing of NYSE.

UnitedHealth Group Incorporated, which gained 2.65% (10.45 points) to close at 404.70, was the best performer of the session. Dow Inc (NYSE 🙂 gained 2.36%, or 1.35 points, to close at 58.51 Home Depot Inc (NYSE 🙂 rose 2.16%, or 7.12 points, to 337.48 late in trade.

They were also the session’s worst performers Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:), fell 0.86 point or 0.41% to close at 219.12. International Business Machines declined 0.55 points or 0.39%, to reach 141.81. 3M Company (NYSE;) lost 0.40 points or 0.34% to 177.80.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc (NYSE:) which rose 8.23% to 34.32, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:) which was up 5.45% to settle at 14.89 and Capri Holdings Ltd (NYSE:) which gained 5.14% to close at 50.95.

These were the worst performers Pinnacle West Capital Corp (NYSE -) was down 8.07% at 68.19 in the late trade. Lamb Weston Holdings Inc (NYSE:), which fell 6.61% to close at 58.22, and Perrigo Company PLC(NYSE:), which dropped 4.68% to end at 46.25.

Merus NV (NASDAQ) was the top performer on the NASDAQ Composite. It rose by 38.15% and reached 27.63. New Fortress Energy LLC (NASDAQ: ) The stock was up 25.36% and settled at 33.22 Nutriband Inc (NASDAQ) gained 23.31% and closed at 7.83

The worst performers were Prelude Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 39.78% to 17.33 in late trade, Osmotica Pharmaceuticals PLC (NASDAQ:) which lost 37.25% to settle at 1.920 and Oric Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 35.54% to 12.26 at the close.

The New York Stock Exchange saw rising stocks surpass declining stocks by 2337 to 872; 131 closed unchanged. On the Nasdaq Stock Exchange 2580 rose while 993 fell, while 157 finished unchanged.

Pinnacle West capital Corp (NYSE:), shares fell 52 weeks ago to their lowest level. This was 8.07%, or 5.99 to 68.19. Lamb Weston Holdings Inc shares (NYSE:), fell 52 weeks ago to their lowest level. They were down 6.61 percent or 4.12 to 56.22. Amgen Inc shares (NASDAQ:), fell by 0.41% to 52 week lows, losing 0.86 to 209.12. Shares in Prelude Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 39.78% or 11.45 to 17.33. Osmotica Pharmaceuticals PLC’s shares fell by 37.25%, or 1.140 to 1.920. Shares in Oric Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 35.54% or 6.76 to 12.26.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.95% to 19.54.

The December delivery of Gold Futures was lower by 0.33%, or 5.75, to $1756.05 per troy ounce. In commodities trading, crude oil rose 1.41 or 1.82% to reach $78.84 per barrel in November, and the December Brent oil contract rose 1.36 or 1.68% to trade at $82.44 per barrel.

EUR/USD declined 0.01%, to 1.1554, and USD/JPY increased 0.17%, to 111.61.

At 94.205, the US Dollar Index Futures fell 0.07%.
