(Reuters] – Authorities in a statement said that the beaches of a California city closed due to an oil leak last week will reopen on Monday.

Huntington Beach state beaches and city beaches will be reopened after water quality tests showed that there were no oil-associated toxins in the ocean, Huntington Beach officials and California State Parks representatives said.

About 3,000 barrels (16,000 gallons of) were released into the Pacific Ocean by spillage last week. It killed wildlife, polluted the coast, and forced officials to close Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, and Huntington Beach in Orange County.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the U.S. Coast Guard has begun investigating an Oakland vessel. They are looking into the possibility that the anchor of the ship may have struck a pipe and caused the oil leakage.

According to the statement, authorities will monitor the water’s health for the next two weeks and test it for toxic substances.

Huntington Beach advertises itself to be Surf City USA. It is the only place in Southern California that oil platforms can be seen from the coast.
