LONDON (Reuters – Britain has agreed with Italy to establish a new trading partnership. The announcement was made Wednesday by the British Trade Department following discussions at the G20 Ministerial Meeting in Italy.
Britain wants to build new international trade relations after it leaves the European Union.
Anne Marie Trevelyan, Trade Minister of Italy stated that strengthening bilateral relations with Italy was a win-win situation. This will promote exports and increase investment opportunities for our business.
Italy, a member state of the EU is bound by an EU-wide trade agreement with Britain. This deal was signed after Brexit and some exporters feel it has increased restrictions on the flow of goods.
Trevelyan stated that talks with Italy may promote British exports, such as life sciences and defense, and improve relations in the growth sector like green technology and digital services.
It is hoped to create a new partnership that sees the two sides meet each year at ministerial level, and promotes more business–to-business collaborations.
