LONDON, (Reuters) – The Bank of England has announced that it will not delay briefings on the record between policymakers and private financial institutions. This was disclosed by the bank to Reuters Wednesday.

After growing concern over similar actions at other central bank, the BoE has taken this permanent measure to increase transparency in its market intelligence gathering operations.

After Philip Lane, the chief economist of European Central Bank, reportedly revealed an inexact inflation prediction at one such meeting, there were calls for it to cease its closed-door meetings.

The ECB partially disputed the Financial Times’ report.

Meetings between the Monetary Policy Committee of the BoE and representatives from private banks were billed by the central bank as an opportunity to collect intelligence about the economy and the financial markets. The BoE’s Public stance should not be repeated by policymakers.

Additionally, the BoE publishes information about these meetings in the schedules for MPC members. These are then made public to the general public once the meetings have been completed.

These events are often a subject of speculation or rumours among financial traders. Some Twitter users (NYSE:) reported last week that an MPC member met with a large bank client and another major bank. The BoE declined to comment.

Global central bankers are under increased scrutiny. Two U.S. Federal Reserve officers were required to liquidate their stockholdings last month in order to resolve conflicts of interest.
