U.S. NHTSA asks Tesla why it did not recall autopilot system

(Reuters) – The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration asked Tesla Inc (NASDAQ) why it has not filed recall paperwork since updating its autopilot driver system.

The U.S. Highway Safety Investigators informed the company it should recall if an internet software update causes a safety problem, according to the Associated Press. This report cited an NHTSA letter that was sent to Tesla Tuesday.

Reuters asked Tesla and NHTSA to respond but did not receive any immediate responses.
