WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – A bipartisan group headed by Senators Amy Klobuchar (a Democrat) and Chuck Grassley (a Republican) will introduce a bill to bar Big Tech platforms like Alphabet (NASDAQ;) from favoring their products or services.

It is part of a series of bills introduced to Congress that aims at tightening tech firms. This includes the industry leaders Apple (NASDAQ.) and Facebook. Although none of these bills have been passed, the Senate has approved a larger measure that would increase antitrust enforcement resources.

Klobuchar’s Office stated that the bill would be presented next week. It would go along with a House Judiciary Committee-passed measure. To become law, it must be approved by both chambers of Congress.

Klobuchar’s and Grassley’s bills would prohibit platforms’ from requiring businesses to use their platform to buy its goods and services, and also ban them from biased search results in favor of the platform.

Klobuchar released a statement saying that dominant digital platforms, some of the most powerful companies in the world have started to favor their products and services. He also stated that policies must be put in place so small entrepreneurs and businesses can still succeed on the digital market.

Klobuchar heads the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Antitrust Subcommittee. Grassley, however, is the highest ranking Republican on the full Committee. The co-sponsors are Democrats such as Senator Dick Durbin who is chair of the Judiciary Committee’s antitrust subcommittee, and Cory Booker as well as Republicans Lindsey Graham, John Kennedy, and Cynthia Lummis.
