United Airlines plans new flights to Jordan and Europe in bet on revival in international travel

United AirlinesPlans to open 10 trans-Atlantic routes by 2022. This bet is on how cooped-up Americans will try to escape the United States to see the Canary Islands, Jordan’s archeological sites, or Norwegian fjords.

These five destinations were added to the service: on May 5, three times a week, Amman, Jordan, from Washington, D.C., with a a BoeingFrom Newark Liberty International Airport to Bergen, Norway, May 5, with a Boeing 757-220, Palma de Mallorca, Spain, June 2, with a Boeing-767-300ER, and Tenerife, Spain’s Canary Islands, on June 9, with a Boeing 757-220. Daily flights are now added to Ponta Delgada, Portugal’s Azores. This was done on May 13 with a Boeing 737 Max.

Patrick Quayle from United, senior vice president for international network alliances, stated, “We want travel to be fun again.”

Trans-Atlantic travel and international travel have been an integral part of the large U.S. carrier’s service, but were hampered by travel restrictions and pandemic.

United’s transatlantic service earned just $585million in its second quarter. That is 10% less than its $2.1 billion revenue in 2021.

United and the other airlines have emphasized domestic travel. They are particularly focused on beach destinations and outdoor adventures. Domestic travel has been more resilient than international. United will also add European routes between Denver, Munich, Chicago, Milan, Washington D.C., and Berlin. Other routes that were put on hold by the pandemic are also being launched, including San Francisco-Bangladesh on May 26, and Newark-Nice, France on April 29, respectively.

Quayle stated that United will not fly any previous routes between Newark and Manchester, Newark To Glasgow, San Francisco To Dublin or Newark To Manchester.
