LONDON (Reuters – A man entered a meeting with his constituency voters and was allegedly stabbed multiple times at a church. He is a 69 year-old British lawmaker who belongs to Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party.

David Amess (representing Southend West in Essex), was knifed at approximately noon at a Methodist Church meeting.

According to police, a suspect was taken into custody after the stabbing.

Amess’s bureau confirmed that Amess had been stabbed and did not give any additional details.

John Lamb (a local councillor), told Reuters that he had been stabbed numerous times. We don’t know how serious, but it doesn’t look good.

It was unknown what Amess’s current condition was.

“Horrific, shocking news. Keir Sterner, the leader of opposition Labour Party, stated that David was in his thoughts, as is his family, and all his staff.

Amess first was elected in parliament in 1983 to represent Basildon. In 1997, he ran in Southend West.

On his website, he lists that his primary interests include “animal welfare” and “pro-life issues.”

Amess was stabbed at his meeting with constituents. This is reminiscent of Stephen Timms, a Labour lawmaker who survived being stabbed in his constituency office in 2010, and Jo Cox’s fatal shooting days before Brexit.
