(Reuters) – Myanmar’s ex-leader Aung San Suu Kyi claimed that authorities had placed a gag order against him Friday because of concerns about his communication causing instability.

Myanmar’s state media did not report on developments in Suu Kyi’s legal cases. They were filed shortly after her February coup. Khin Maung Zaw, her lawyer, was the only public source of information regarding her trial and her health.

In a post on Facebook (NASDAQ) he stated that he was barred from speaking with media, diplomats and foreign governments. Later, he posted information about the order.

The order stated that “Khin Maung Zaw may harass a person acting in compliance with the law may cause riots or destabilise public peace.”

“Some media outlets (local and international), illegal media outlets, and media incite fake information that could lead to destabilisation of the country.”

An official for the military ruling did not return calls seeking comment.

Suu Kyi is currently being held at an undisclosed address since February 1, when she was overthrown by her lawyer.

There are a variety of charges against her, such as violating coronavirus protocols and illegally importing or possessing two way radios. She also faces incitement for public alarm and violation of the Official Secrets Act.

In his most recent correspondence with media, Khin Maung Zaw on Tuesday provided by text message a summary of the testimony https://reut.rs/3DHDxPp of Suu Kyi’s co-defendant, ousted President Win Myint, who told the court the military had told him to resign hours before the coup, warning he would otherwise be harmed. He denied it.

According to the lawyer, Suu Kyi asked him for Win Myint’s testimony. This was his first report on events that took place prior to the coup.

After her party won a 2015 election, Suu Kyi headed a civil government. This was after half a century of military rule had ended.

Zaw Min Tu, a Junta spokesperson, stated in writing Wednesday that Suu Kyi is being fairly handled by an independent judiciary.

A decade of attempts to make progress towards democracy and economic prosperity ended with the February coup. This was after years of stagnation, authoritarian rule, and decades of economic decline.
