U.S. FDA delays decision on Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for adolescents

(Reuters] – A U.S. regulatory body for healthcare is putting off a decision about authorizing Moderna (NASDAQ:) Inc’s COVID-19 vaccine was given to adolescents in an effort to determine if it could cause heart inflammation. The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that the shots were being tested by people who are familiar with the situation.

Moderna’s stock fell almost 2% to $326.25 midday after the report.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration has begun to investigate the possibility of myocarditis in younger men who have received Moderna’s vaccine, particularly when compared with Pfizer The Wall Street Journal reported that the vaccine was approved by the NYSE after some Nordic countries had restricted their use.

According to the report, it is not clear if there are heightened risks.

Due to myocarditis in some men, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark stopped using Moderna’s COVID-19 shots for young males earlier this month.

However, the Danish Health Agency later stated that vaccines are available for under-18s and that Wednesday’s statement suggesting suspension was a miscommunication.

Moderna and FDA have not yet responded to comment requests.
