Hollywood studios have reached a deal with a union that represents its television and film crews. This would prevent a strike which threatened to stop production.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers announced a three-year new contract on Saturday. It addresses IATSE’s demands for safer working conditions, better benefits, and shorter work hours.

This contract provides a 10 hour turnaround between shifts and increased funding for health and pension plans. It also includes an 3% annual rate increase.

This deal is available less than a day before IATSE’s strike deadline. The strike was the first in 128 years of union history, and it would also have been the largest crew strike since World War II.

IATSE is a broad range of workers in the industry, including studio mechanics and wardrobe and make up artists. The IATSE represents approximately 150,000 U.S. crew members and Canadians. Current TV and film contracts cover around 60,000.
