LONDON, (Reuters) – With electric vehicle sales rising and zero emission regulations becoming more popular, a flurry Monday announcements showed that the world’s auto industry is moving in a new direction. It wants to surpass the fossil fuel car era.
Stellantis, which was formed from the merger of PSA & Fiat Chrysler earlier in this year, announced that it has entered into a preliminary agreement to manufacture battery cells and modules for North America. This is where Stellantis’ No. By 2030, 4 of the largest automakers in America expects to sell more than 40% electric vehicles (EVs).
It follows an announcement made just recently. Daimler AG (DE:), will purchase 33% in the battery cell manufacturer Automotive Cells Company. This company was established in 2020 by Stellantis. TotalEnergies also founded it in 2020.
Automobile manufacturers are racing for battery supplies to make the switch to electric. Numerous new batteries plants have been planned in Europe and America.
Ford Motor (NYSE) Co’s European plans for going electric received a boost when it announced Monday that it would spend up to 230,000,000 pounds ($316 Million) to retool a northern England engine plant to create electric cars.
Number 2. The U.S. carmaker is a top-ranked one. The No. 2 U.S. automaker stated that its European car range will become all-electric in 2030.
Mercedes-Benz Daimler (OTC) manufacturer has warned against the shift to electric as it could lead to loss of jobs in combustion-engine plants. Ford’s announcement therefore is a positive for those who make fossil fuel engines at Halewood near Liverpool.
Changes in the automobile landscape have also been accompanied the shift to electric, and many startups are hoping to be the next Tesla (NASDAQ.) Inc.
This has caught the eye of Foxconn in Taiwan, who has ambitions to divert from their role building consumer electronics for Apple Inc (NASDAQ) and other tech companies.
Foxconn revealed its three first EV prototypes Monday – an SUV sedan, and a bus – made by Foxtron. Foxtron is a partnership between Foxconn (Foxconn) and Yulon Motor Co Ltd in Taiwan.
Two years ago, it first announced its ambitions for electric cars. Then, in a remarkable move, the company this year signed deals to produce vehicles with Fisker Inc (U.S.) and PTT Pcl (Thailand).
Volkswagen AG (OTC). Elon Musk addressed the top German executives of Tesla over the weekend due to the necessity for speed.
Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess (DE:), has not made any secret of his desire to overtake Tesla as the leading global electric vehicle manufacturer.
