(Reuters) -Colin Powell was the first Black U.S. Secretary of State and the top Military Officer. He died Monday from complications caused by COVID-19. In a Facebook post, the family claimed that Powell was 100% vaccinated.

Colin Powell has died. We are both deeply shocked. His service to the public was outstanding, beginning with his experience as a Vietnam soldier. Presidents have relied heavily on Powell’s experience and counsel.

He was a favourite of presidents and he won the Presidential Medal of Freedom twice. His reputation was worldwide. Colin was loved by his family and friends. Laura and I offer our deepest condolences to Alma and his children as they reflect on the great life of this man.

He was one of my greatest friends. He was both great and good. He was a funny man with a good sense of humor. He cared deeply about others… He loved people and was open to new ideas.
