LONDON, Reuters – Britain’s largest retailer Tesco (OTC) will open Tuesday its first check-out-free location in central London. Customers can shop online and pay for their products without having to scan them or interact with a cashier.

Tesco follows other competitors, such as Aldi (NASDAQ:), Morrisons and Amazon (NASDAQ 🙂 in making similar moves.

Following a successful trial in a Tesco Express staff store located at High Holborn, the company announced that “GetGo”, which was introduced to High Holborn’s Tesco Express store, follows the rollout of the product at its headquarters at Welwyn Garden City. This store is currently open and has been there since 2019.

Since opening in 2018, the High Holborn store is cashless.

The Tesco.com App will allow customers to walk out straight after they have checked in to the store and picked up their groceries.

Cameras and weight sensors will determine what products customers have purchased and then charge them directly via the app for the product.

After leaving the store, customers receive an instant receipt to their mobile phone.

Tesco stated that Trigo has been selected to help it roll out its technology.
