American Airlines (NASDAQ 🙂 announced Thursday its third quarter results. They beat the analysts’ predictions and generated revenue above expectations.

American Airlines posted earnings per share (EPS) of $-0.99 on revenues of $8.97 billion. Investing.com polled analyst to predict EPS at $-1.09 on $8.83B revenue.

American Airlines shares have increased 23% since the start of the year. However, they are still 25.18% below their 52-week high of $26.09 on March 18. They are outperforming the S&P 500 which is up 20.77% from the start of the year.

American Airlines is following other significant Transportation sector earnings in this month’s edition

American Airlines reported Tuesday’s earnings beat by Canadian National Railway. The Canadian Railway report showed EPS for $3.59B at $1.52, while American Airlines forecasted EPS for $3.51B at $1.41.

CSX beat all expectations Wednesday, posting a third-quarter EPS of $0.43 on $3.29B in revenue. This compares to the forecast of $0.378 for $3.07B revenue.
