(Reuters) – Thursday, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), announced that it proposed to make flight attendants take at least 10 hour breaks between shifts. The proposal was made after Congress directed such an action in 2018. According to a Thursday document.

Airlines for America (NASDAQ:), Delta Air Lines NYSE:), United Airlines and many other major carriers had already estimated that its rules would run to $786m over 10 years for its 66% flight attendants.

The FAA was informed by aviation unions that the vast majority of U.S. flight attendants receive 10 hours sleep from the airlines. They also urged for the adoption of the rule quickly to ensure safety and security.
