WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Top executives hail from Washington Exxon Mobil America (NYSE: Corp), BP (NYSE NYSE::) Chevron Shell (LON::) Oil and Corp will both testify at the Oct. 28 congressional hearing. This hearing examines whether or not the fossil fuel sector attempted to deceive consumers and stop climate change action. A House panel stated Friday.

Democratic lawmakers who called for the hearing, which is billed as “Exposing Big Oil’s Disinformation Campaign to Prevent Climate Action,” have said they intend to model the high-profile event after congressional hearings on big tobacco firms, who misrepresented the health impacts of their products.

ExxonMobil’s Darren Woods will join BP America’s David Lawler and Shell President Gretchen Watkins as the CEOs.

American Petroleum Institute President Mike Sommers, and Chamber of Commerce President Suzanne Clark, will testify in front of the U.S. House Oversight Committee.

Carolyn Maloney, Chair of the House Oversight Committee, and Ro Khanna (chairman of the Subcommittee on Environment), sent last month a letter to executives, citing Climatic Change’s peer-reviewed study that found that 91 advocacy and think tanks that downplayed the effects global warming had been funded by Exxon as well as industry groups.
