HOUSTON, (Reuters) – Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE: ) announced Friday that it will shut down two office towers located in Houston to consolidate employees on its main campus. The move is part of a plan to cut costs and reduce staff turnover.

Exxon last year announced a plan that would reduce its global workforce of 14,000 workers after a $22.4 billion annual historical loss.

Exxon spokesperson Casey Norton announced that remaining employees at Hughes Landing (TX) offices will be transferred to Houston’s main campus. Bloomberg reported this news first.

With the closing of the offices, the company will be able to receive more than $1,000,000 in tax reduction agreements with Woodlands Township.

Exxon wrote in a memo that they look forward to welcoming employees to their larger Houston space once the tax issues are settled.

Company has conducted performance assessments programs that have led to job terminations and voluntary departures. Norton explained that those positions may be filled, but they aren’t intended to decrease the number of employees.
