SHANGHAI, (Reuters) – China Evergrande Group defied market expectations by supplying money to cover interest on a U.S. Dollar bond prior to the end of a grace period that expired on October 23rd.

Evergrande skipped coupon payments for its Dollar Bonds, amounting to nearly $280 Million. The 30-day grace period began on each of these bonds.

The developer doesn’t have any onshore or offshore bonds due this year. However, the company still has to pay coupon payments for its offshore bonds. These payments total nearly $340m between Nov. 1 & Dec. 28. There are also $195 million of outstanding missed payments.

Evergrande’s next payment deadline will be Oct. 29, with expiration of its 30-day grace period.
