Amazon bulks up shipping capacity to battle holiday season snarls -Breaking

(Reuters] – Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ) stated Monday that it had increased its container processing capabilities and acquired more shipping storage at ocean freight carriers in order to reduce supply chain bottlenecks ahead of the holiday season.

Global supply chains are designed to move goods quickly and efficiently. However, the COVID-19 pandemic’s stop-and-start nature has made it difficult for global supply chains to function properly.

Amazon announced that it plans to hire 150,000 temporary workers in the United States for the holiday period.

This e-commerce company isn’t the only one trying to leverage its size and wealth to get around supply chain problems.

Retailers that include Walmart (NYSE:) Inc. Target Corp (NYSE: Home Depot (NYSE:) has stated that they have begun chartering ships in order to address the slowdown caused by the pandemic and affect sea transport networks, which handle 90% of world trade.

This month, President Joe Biden urged the private sector for help in easing supply chain congestions by increasing overnight port operations to support delivery.
