RIO DE JANEIRO – Facebook (NASDAQ) removed a video of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro late Sunday from its platforms. In it, the far-right leader falsely claimed that COVID-19 vaccines are linked to the development of AIDS.

Facebook spokeswoman said Monday that “our policies do not allow for claims that COVID-19 vaccinations cause death or serious harm to people.”

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS, UNAIDS, states that COVID-19 vaccines have been approved by regulators and are safe for all people.

Alphabet (NASDAQ) took down Bolsonaro’s YouTube videos that featured the Brazilian President recommending the use of hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin to combat COVID-19. This was despite the fact that scientific evidence has shown these drugs do not work.

Bolsonaro avoided the use of both drugs during his live broadcasts. Bolsonaro suggested that videos could be deleted and called for “early treatment” to all COVID-19 patients.

Bolsonaro first broadcast the video on Thursday. The video, in which Bolsonaro links COVID-19 to AIDS, remained accessible on YouTube on Monday.
