Ministers, party leaders detained in apparent coup in Sudan

KHARTOUM (Reuters), Several members of Sudan’s Cabinet and a significant number of party leaders supporting the government were taken into custody Monday, according to political sources.
According to Reuters, the Sudanese paramilitary and military forces deployed throughout Khartoum’s capital. They also restricted the movement of civilians as demonstrators carrying the national flag set fires in several areas.
According to Al-Arabiya TV, the Khartoum airport had been closed and all international flights suspended.
Military officials did not comment immediately. Sudanese TV state broadcasted as usual.
Al Hadath claimed that Prime Minister Abdalla Haydok had been put under house arrest. Four cabinet ministers were also taken into custody by the unidentified military force. Also, one civil member of Sovereign Council was arrested.
