Pontem Network Joins Polkadot’s Substrate Builder’s Grant Program

Pontem is excited to announce that after 3 months, they have achieved Milestone #1 of Parity’s Substrate Builder’s grant program. This program sponsored by Parity, the developers of the blockchain, allows projects that are building Substrate-based blockchains, applications, or ecosystem components to receive support for technical challenges, strategy, and ecosystem building from Parity’s extensive experience and resources.

Pontem was one of more than 50 accepted projects into the Substrate Builders Program. Parity Technologies supports Pontem on technical and community roadmaps as well as setting milestones for achieving their goals.

As part of the Builder’s Program, Pontem has recently completed Milestone #1, which includes the following accomplishments:

  • Parachains to be launched

Pontem transformed their Substrate blockchain into a parchain by using the Cumulus framework, the Nimbus consensus extensions and Pontem.

  • Pontem compatible compatibility by adopting Diem Standard Library

Compatibility issues were encountered while adopting the standard library. Some functions had to be restricted in order to resolve the problem. Pontem-only functions were also created.

  • Implementing collator staking

After launching the Parachain, Parachain collator staking – similar to Moonbeam and Moonriver, Ethereum-compatible smart contract parachains on Polkadot and Kusama respectively.

  • Bridge: Implementing an Alpha

Pontem Network was advised to create an alpha version Bridge between Pontem Network & Diem. Pontem chose instead to develop alpha versions Bridge contracts that could later be integrated into ChainBridge.

Pontem also managed to upgrade all their environment to the most recent version of Move VM. This included tools and Pallet. The launch of the parachain saw Pontem also set up and successfully run their Relay Chain. This was then connected to the Parachain. Some of their smaller achievements include the updating and release of a bootstrap Docker compose for validaters.

Pontem already looks forward to Milestone 2. They have made progress in governance, treasury and xcmp. Following integration and runtime testing, they will be focusing on Milestone #2. They aim to soon be a Parachain at Kusama.
