WASHINGTON (Reuters), – Monday’s statement by the State Department stated that private companies will be working with the State Department to aid Afghans who moved in after Americans evacuated their troops. The Taliban took control of Kabul and the Taliban seized power in Kabul.

Tens of thousands have arrived from Afghanistan as part of an American evacuation. Because of their 20-year work with U.S., allied troops, or other U.S./foreign agencies over these years many of them could have been put at risk.

The State Department stated that the new program will enable adults to establish “sponsor groups” in order to support refugees arriving from abroad and assist them with their integration into communities.

According to Secretary Antony Blinken, “Americans across all walks have shown strong interest in helping these individuals,” he said.

The Sponsor Circle Program for Afghans taps into this generosity and allows individuals to directly participate in welcoming and integrating our new neighbours.”

He said that the program was launched with Community Sponsorship Hub in partnership. It will increase the government’s ability to resettle Afghans and complement the work of its partners from non-profit resettlement agencies.

The administration of President Joe Biden is trying to host as many as 50k refugees in the United States. Some others are still in U.S. facilities or have been left behind in third world countries.

Sarah Krause, the Community Sponsorship Center’s executive director, stated that sponsorship will create long-lasting bonds between Afghans, and their communities.

This group will verify sponsor circles, conduct background checks and ensure participants have completed mandatory training. They also review pledges to support Afghan refugees in the initial 90 days following their arrival.

Some organizations representing refugees have been urging the United States not to abandon a private sponsorship program for individuals seeking asylum. This is similar to what Canada has done.

Former Presidents of the United States, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, helped to create Welcome.US last month. This group is aimed at helping Afghan refugees.
