PARIS/WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Airbus defends plans to increase jet production after a major engine maker said that it wasn’t ready to sustain a nearly twofold rise in A320 jet output by 2025. This prolongs a dispute that has reached to large leasing companies.

Raytheon Technologies’ (NYSE:) Chief Executive Greg Hayes expressed doubt earlier about whether the market will support Airbus’s tentative proposals to boost A320-family output from around 40 to 75 per month in 2025.

Jeff Knittel from Airbus Americas, the Chief Executive Officer of Airbus Americas, said to CNBC about these comments: “Customers want us not to push them out but bring planes forward.” In order to be able to serve customers and make sure we have enough airplanes, ramping up seems like a good next step. That is what matters, and not the speed at which we must ramp up.
