Jonathan Newton/Pool via EUWASHINGTON (Reuters] – The U.S. President Joe Biden plans to name the Federal Communications Commission acting chair for a second term, and then to designate her the permanent chair. This is according to two sources briefed to Reuters.
In January, Biden appointed Jessica Rosenworcel, a Democratic Commissioner to act as acting chair of five telecom regulators. The current vacancy is one and the regulatory body currently split 2-2 between Democrats (Republicans). Biden has waited nine months before he made nominations to FCC. However, the FCC is still deadlocked and has not been in a position to resolve some problems.
Rosenworcel’s staff and she did not reply to our requests late Monday for comments on an announcement that was expected Tuesday. Rosenworcel, without a term extension, would have to leave FCC by the end of this year.
