Iraq war veteran pleads guilty to attacking U.S. Capitol policeman on Jan. 6 -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – A former member of the National Guard who was deployed in Iraq pleaded guilty Tuesday to a felony count of assaulting a U.S. Capitol Police officer during the January 6 riot by Trump supporters at the Capitol.
Mark Leffingwell 52 of Seattle was charged with federal riot related charges. He was released after only a few hours in custody.
Leffingwell, who was charged with attacking Capitol Police Officer Daniel Amendola as part of the attack at the U.S.-Seat of Government, pleaded guilty. He said however that he shoved two police officers following their pushes and then another one.
Mark Carroll, the defense lawyer for Leffingwell, stated to the court that Leffingwell had pushed two officers during the riot. He also said it was something he “shouldn’t have done.”
Leffingwell stated to the court that he shouldn’t be allowed in the Capitol. I was not trying to attack.” “I wasn’t trying to attack.”
Jackson stated that Leffingwell could be sentenced to a maximum of eight years in prison and up to $250,000. The judge said that Leffingwell should serve between 24 and 30 months in prison, and be fined $10,000 to $95,000 under federal sentencing guidelines.
Probable sentencing was set for February 10, according to the judge.
More than 660 individuals are facing charges in connection to the Capitol attack, where Trump supporters tried to block Congress from certifying Democrat Joe Biden’s win in the November 2020 election. Trump claimed that he won because of voter fraud.
U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden scheduled June 13th 2022 for Kevin and Hunter Seefried’s trial. They are a Delaware father and son who were charged with felony riot.
Prosecutors claim that Kevin Seefried, shortly after entering on the Senate side the Capitol was captured holding a Confederate Flag. Prosecutors also referenced a Twitter video (NYSE:) which they claim shows Hunter Seefried breaking glass at a Capitol Complex window. All charges have been dropped by the Seefrieds.
