REUTERS/Issei KatoTOKYO (Reuters] – An economic minister stated Tuesday that a panel, led by Fumio Kirishima, will present a plan for a stimulus package to help offset the negative effects of coronavirus.
A roadmap will be included in the proposal that will outline long-term priorities, including building robust supply chains, encouraging innovation, and sharing wealth with low-income families.
Following the initial meeting of the panel, Economy Minister Daishiro Yamagiwa said that “the proposal will include certain steps that go into a stimulus package.” Without further explanation, he said that the proposal could include tax-related issues.
Kishida started the panel to talk about ways to achieve his vision of new capitalism, which would reduce Japan’s income inequalities.
He previously stated that the stimulus package would include aid for households and businesses affected by COVID-19 and it would be completed by year end and valued at several tens to trillion yen.
The discussion about the reforms and spending package will intensify following the election of the lower house on Oct. 31, where Kishida hopes that he wins big enough to secure sufficient political capital to implement his policy priorities.
