White House in contact with Gulf countries about Sudan coup

[ad_1]

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The Biden Administration is considering all economic options to address the military coup in Sudan. It has also been in close touch with Gulf countries. White House national security advisor Jake Sullivan stated Tuesday that the administration was looking into the entire range of economic instruments available to it to deal with the situation.

On Monday, the Sudanese military dismantled a power-sharing regime and deposed a civilian prime minster. In response, the State Department suspended $700 Million in U.S. assistance to Sudan’s democratic transition.

Together with Norway and Britain, the United States strongly condemned the military overthrow. These countries are major contributors to America and have expressed deep concern at the current situation. They called on security forces for those held illegally to be released.
