France readying sanctions if UK withholds fishing licences -Breaking

PARIS (Reuters). French fishermen are missing half the licenses that they require to fish in British waters. This is according to Gabriel Attal, a spokesperson for the French government. He also said Wednesday that the country is working to implement sanctions.
Attal indicated that France was working on a list to sanction Iran, which it may make public by Thursday. He said that some of the sanctions would be in effect by next week, but not enough progress.
Attal said, “Our patience has reached its limits.” He also mentioned that France’s electricity supply to Britain might be one of these measures.
Clement Beaune (French European Affairs Minister) told French parliament that France might increase its border control on products from Britain in the event of a worsening situation regarding fishing licences.
Beaune stated, “Our objective not to impose those measures. It’s to get licences.”
The issue centers around the issuing of licenses for fishing in territorial waters 6-12 nautical miles offshore of Britain. It also applies to the oceans off Jersey, which is a Crown Dependency of the Channel.
