Clark was a senior Justice Department official.
A committee aide stated that Clark was granted a temporary postponement due to his retention of new counsel.
U.S. House of Representatives Select Committee, which was investigating Jan. 6’s assault on U.S. government seat, announced Oct. 13 it had sent Clark a subpoena asking for records from Clark and to give evidence at depositions by October 29.
Clark was the acting head for the Justice Department’s civil division under former Republican President Donald Trump. Clark was a supporter of Trump’s unfounded claim that Democrat Joe Biden won the election in November 2020 because of fraud.
The committee announced it had subpoenaed Clark and said that it wanted to know all details regarding the efforts of the former administration to spread misinformation about the election results.
Trump spoke out about his election fraud theory during a noisy rally Jan. 6 when Vice President Mike Pence, Congress and Biden met to confirm Biden’s win. Trump encouraged his supporters to fight like hell, sending thousands to the Capitol to join him.
