PARIS (Reuters – France’s preliminary third-quarter gross domestic product (GDP), rose 3% to surpass market predictions, said the national statistical office. This was due to a pickup in consumer spending, and an increase in exports that boosted the second-largest economy of the euro area.
According to Reuters polls of 24 analysts, 3% growth was more than the 2.1% forecast.
France Info radio spoke to Bruno Le Maire, Finance Minister. He said the result was “exceptional,” and showed that the economy was moving in the right directions.
France’s national statistical agency INSEE stated that third-quarter growth indicated France was on track to revert to pre-COVID-19.
INSEE predicts that the economy will grow by 6.25% in 2021.
