New York Sheriff Andrew Cuomo said Friday that there was “an overwhelming amount” of evidence against the former governor. Andrew Cuomo, a day after a criminal complaint accused him of a sex crime against an aide.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple revealed, in addition, that he was taken by surprise when the matter was docked and leaked to the media shortly after it had been filed in Albany City Court.

Apple stated to reporters that he expected the court to review the complaint and determine next steps.

Cuomo is accused of forcing Cuomo to touch a female executive assistant in December last year at the governor’s residence. This is a misdemeanor. Cuomo was due in court to face the charges on Nov. 17, and Apple indicated that the disgraced Democrat will be taken into custody at some time.

Apple stated that Apple had planned to make the complaint public much later than Thursday. He said this after having spoken with the Cuomo and county district attorneys. In the same way, the accuser was not informed that the paperwork had been filed at court before the complaint was made.

Apple stated that “Everything happened too quickly.” We were hoping that the documents would be reviewed. It was not our expectation for a quick turnaround.

Apple maintained that Cuomo’s case would be strong regardless of Cuomo’s unexpectedly released complaint.

He said, “It is a strong case.”

David Soares is the Albany County District Attorney and his office handles criminal prosecutions. He said in a Thursday statement that, “Like most people, we were shocked to discover today that Andrew Cuomo was the subject of a criminal case filed by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.”

Rita Glavin (Cuomo’s attorney) wrote Thursday that Apple was accused of being unprofessional for having filed documents which led to the complaint not being sent out without informing Soares.

Glavin claimed that Governor Cuomo had never assaulted anybody and that Sheriff Apple’s motivations were patently wrong.
